Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Employment and Skills Board

Our LEP Strategy is now complete.  Consultation on this Strategy to 2020 took place during May 2012 and was launched on 28 June 2012.

In preparing this strategy, extensive consultation took place with businesses and other stakeholders across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly - throughout, we received a clear and consistent message about the importance of prioritising employment and skills.  Hence, we have now formed a Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Employment and Skills Board which is ready to oversee the valuable work required to make a difference in this area.

The Employment and Skills Board is an employer led partnership that brings public, private and voluntary sector employers together with education and training providers; supported by the Local Authorities, JobCentre Plus and the Skills Funding Agency.  The Board is chaired by Gaynor Coley, a LEP Board Director and Managing Director of The Eden Project with coordination and administrative support provided by Cornwall Council.

Our Terms of Reference and Constitution are available and the Board is currently developing the Employment and Skills Strategy for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

We will work together to ensure that business can:

  • recruit the right people with the right attitude, motivation and skills; and
  • access training provision that is delivered in the right way, at the right cost and of the right quality

The draft Employment and Skills strategy for Cornwall is currently out for public consultation.  All comments should be fed back to , Employment and Skills Manager.

Our overarching vision for the Employment and Skills Board is for:

"A thriving economy within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly where dynamic, diverse, sustainable employment and a higher skilled population help people, places and businesses reach their full potential"
